For some waste, for some others an important raw material

Where to go with materials you do not need anymore? Allianz Fiber-based Materials Baden-Württemberg e. V. (AFBW) offers an effective solution for this with the “recycling exchange”. Companies can make resources that are no longer needed available to other members via an online platform. Positive effects: recycling of resources, extended contact area between the members and a contribution to material efficiency. For the cluster initiative this is a further step towards more sustainability.

In times when resources are scarce and topics such as sustainability, recycling and material efficiency are on everyone’s lips, the AFBW recycling exchange is a more up-to-date cluster service than ever before. The service has the function of a “trading” exchange according to the principle: offer and search. The cluster management acts as a mediator. It collects the inquiries, hires them and brings together the right partners for inquiries.

Whether automotive yarn from model outlets or blends of polyester and polyamide fabric – since March 2018, member companies have been able to offer valuable materials that they would actually dispose of, or to search for specific materials via the recyclable materials exchange. As a result, the garbage of one becomes an important raw material of another.

The idea for this cluster service came by accident. Cluster management responded to a request from a member company that wanted to give away high quality waste and was looking for a corresponding user. The response to the dissemination of the request in the AFBW newsletter was unexpectedly high. In addition to references to potential buyers, several ideas for new projects in this context came up. It quickly became clear that the recycling market is not just a service, but a topic for the entire network. In addition to the important aspect of sustainability, cooperation has already been established in new fields. In the meantime, the cluster initiative is reaching inquiries from all over Germany, because the search function is open to everyone.

The success of the recycling market has once again shown AFBW how important sustainability and resource efficiency are for companies.

This realization also led to the launch of the FIBER PUSH sustainability seal this year.
