General information

Short Summary
An impact-driven French company offers a sustainable microalgae-based solution to clean industrial water. The solution clean-up totally wastewater from nitrate and phosphate and allows additionally the production of high-added value biomass. The French SME proposes a commercial agreement with technical assistance to industrial partners from dairy, brewery and aquaculture.
Full Description
A French company has developed an innovative and eco-friendly solution for wastewater treatment using microalgae.
Today, some agrifood processes, as dairies, bakeries, or breweries, require using water which are rejected with a high-level of nitrates and phosphates. The French company proposes a sustainable method to effectively clean these industrial waters.
The method relies on the ability of the microalgae to purify the water by eating the nitrates, phosphates and some other pollutants.

The French company has selected some microalgae following their capacity to eat and so treat the pollutants.

Another important aspect is the quantity produced of valuable byproduct algal biomass. This biomass can be further processed and used in different sectors. For example, in agriculture, it serves as an effective biofertilizer, enriching the soil with nutrients. In the animal feed sector, this biomass provides a sustainable and nutritious feed option.

Regarding the final usage of the biomass, different microalgae can so be chosen. The French SME is able to propose a set of microalgae following 2 main criteria of the industrial:
– The degree of the wastewater treatment
– The final use of the biomass
Finally, after the microalgae have cleaned the wastewater, the resulting purified water can be reused in various applications, such as industrial processes and agricultural irrigation. Therefore, it preserves natural resources.

The process is particularly appealing to industrial clients looking to enhance their environmental impact.
The French company looks for industrial partners to test the solution at a pilot scale of 1m3/day.
Once tested, the complete treatment process by microalgae can be installed onsite to treat up to 100m3/day.
Partners can be industrials from dairy, brewery or aquaculture. Commercial agreements with technical assistance are proposed.

Advantages and Innovations
– Innovative treatment of wastewater with microalgae
– Production of valuable byproduct algal biomass which could be used as fertilizer or feed.
– Cleaned water produced that can be reused in the process
– Quick return on investment

One of the key advantages of this system is its circular nature and zero waste.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
Type of partners:
– 1) Industrials from the dairy, brewery or aquaculture who generate wastewater with a high-level of nitrates and phosphates ;
– 2) Industrials from the formulation of feed and/or fertilizer interested in sourcing large amounts of high-quality microalgae biomasses.

Role of the partner:
– Partners 1 must define with the French SME which degree of water’s cleanup they target and test it at the 1m3/day pilot scale ;
– Partners 2 must define with the French SME which requirement the algae biomass is needed to be processed and wish to participate actively to the testing.
