No-label sprite trialled in UK

Coca-Cola has launched a trial in the UK selling two of its popular drinks bottles without labels.

Until the end of March, labels are being temporarily removed from Sprite and Sprite Zero on sale at eight selected Tesco Express stores in England. The company says this makes recycling easier.

The brand logos are being embossed on the front of the bottles while laser-engraved product information appears on the back. In recent years, Coca-Cola has introduced several design changes to the brand, including using clear plastic instead of green and attaching caps to the bottles.

More than one life

Dusan Stojankic, vp Franchise Operations, Coca‑Cola Great Britain, says: ‘We want to help create a future where plastic drink packaging will always have more than one life. Labels contain valuable information for consumers but with the help of technology we can now trial other ways to share this information while reducing the amount of packaging we use.’

Exciting project

The UK anti-litter charity Keep Britain Tidy backed the initiative. Ceo Allison Ogden-Newton comments: ‘Everyone, including businesses, need to be part of the solution. We welcome this exciting and innovative trial.’
